Vauxhall Park is under threat again

Last year, Wokingham Borough Council refused planning prior approval for a base station and mast on this site.
The developer has now appealed against this decision and is trying to go against the wishes of local people.

We need to:

(1) Make sure the landowner – Wokingham Borough Council – does not sell or lease the land to the developer.

We the undersigned petition Wokingham Borough Council (WBC) to: 1. refuse to sell or lease any part of Vauxhall Park, Woodley to any person or organisation seeking to build telecommunications infrastructure or other structure which would be detrimental to the enjoyment of the park. 2. do everything its power as landowner, including but not limited to, the application of restrictive covenants to limit use of Vauxhall Park and all other parks owned by WBC, to recreation and leisure use only.

The Planning Inspector will only take certain things into account when deciding this issue.

The value of the amenity – YES

Stress how valuable this park is to you and your family as an area for play, dog-walking , walking, easy of access, especially during Covid.

Intrusive and dominant presence of the mast and base station – YES
Mention the visual impact on the proposed development and the contrast with the current landscape.

Impact on wildlife – YES

The glade where the base station is to be built is a rare wild place in very densely populated area – mention birds, bats, insects – the impact of the construction process.

Whether there is a viable alternative nearby – YES

There are acres of industrial land to the North and East. There is currently a mast on the industrial estate. The applicant has to demonstrate that they have thoroughly explored all other options.

Health concerns – NO

The inspector will not take into account health concerns about magnetic waves, radiation etc.

Property Value – NO

They will also not be concerned about the value of your property.

The mast will overshadow this play area.
