Great News! The number 19a/c bus service, axed by the Tories last September is to be reinstated. With effect from Monday 3rd September the service will resume with hourly buses running on the same route as before the service was cut. The reinstatement is particularly surprising as local Tory councillors had been adamant that the council could no longer afford to pay for the service.
This is a fantastic victory for the residents of Woodley and Whitegates. You signed petitions, completed questionnaires and attended the public meeting at The Oakwood Centre last November.
The campaign to save this vital service was started by Culver Lane residents Shirley Boyt and Angie Burnish. It was wholeheartedly supported by Woodley Labour, Cllr Andy Croy and MP for Reading East, Matt Rodda who is also Shadow Minister for Local Transport.
News that the service which provides the only link to RBH from the area, is being restored has been met with widespread approval particularly from elderly residents. Let no-one say otherwise, this U turn would not have happened without local people getting involved and standing up to the Council to protect a vital bus route.
Printed timetables will be available during August but in the meantime they are available online at https://www.reading-buses.co.uk/nineteens-return-little-oranges
